Snob Swap

Posted by punky on Tuesday January 24, 2012 at 4:20 pm | Clothes Swaps |

Last week we hosted a small event called Snob Swap for our Boston press and blogger contacts in our Swap.com office loby. The Closet was on hand passing out designer goodies to all the attendees. It was a cocktail hour like event with the option to swap two designer items with another blogger (a totally different format then our free for all events). We added some of the designer leftovers to the Swap Market, which now has an Iphone app which you can download here.

Kelley Backpacks

Posted by punky on Thursday December 29, 2011 at 9:07 am | New England, Note from punks |

Kelley Backpacks

Right before Christmas the Telegram had a short uninformative blurb about UMass Students collecting items for foster children (Kelley Backpacks). I wanted more info on what I could do to help, so I tracked down the students running Kelley Backpacks and collected some information to share (they have no web presence at this time). If you would like to help children entering foster care in central Massachusetts this is how you can do so:

Donation location: The Kelley Backpacks donation box is located at the UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus Benedict Building – Family Medicine waiting area, 1st floor (see map).  The donation box will be available Monday through Friday during business hours (due to hospital policy).  If you cannot bring your donation during these hours, please contact kelleybackpacks@gmail.com to arrange a pick-up time.

Kelley Backpacks

Items Needed: We accept donations of new or “good as new” items.  We are always in need of backpacks and clothingsocksunderwear, pajamas and hats/mittens (for infants through teenagers).  We will also gladly accept:

Personal care items: Baby wipes, diapers, formula, baby bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, hair brushes, hair elastics

Transitional items: Stuffed animals and blankets

Activities and School Supplies: Small toys or games, books for youth (in any language), notebooks, coloring books, pencils, pens, markers, crayons

To make a monetary donation: Please make your check payable to “UMass Medical School” and INCLUDE “KELLEY BACKPACKS” IN THE MEMO LINE.  Kate Gomes, who works in the Development Office, manages Kelley Backpacks donations.  Please send your check to:

UMass Medical School

Weekend Dressing

Posted by punky on Tuesday December 13, 2011 at 12:14 pm | Outfitted |

I cant believe how fast the holidays are sneaking up on me. My christmas tree is bare, I haven’t done much shopping and I have no idea what I am baking for this Sunday’s Cookie Swap! So not ready for Santa to come. Last weekend I planned to get all my shopping done, but ended up goofing off with my favorite girlfriends and doing a little too much cuddling with puppies to make any dents in my shopping list, at least I got dressed.
Are you guys all ready for the holidays?

Start at the Station Recap

Posted by punky on Monday December 5, 2011 at 7:21 pm | Haberdash, New England |

Yesterday was Worcesters Start at the Station event, which I look forward to every year. It’s the merriest of the Start on the Street events. Everyone is in a gift giving and cheery holiday shopping mood with carolers singing and all that jolly stuff! The day was full of friends, silliness, and cookies! I loved seeing Seed to Stem’s booth and we picked up an awesome zombie calendar from Abnormal Brain.

Vintage wonderland!

I love this building!

These business cards are time consuming...oops

Ornaments for my accessories tree at @startonthstreet tomorrow!

StArt at the Station

Posted by punky on Monday November 21, 2011 at 2:30 pm | New England, Steals & Deals |

stART station

I’ve been busy crafting some super secret one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for the Start on the Street holiday fair next weekend. There will be plenty of vintage items from The Haberdash in our booth, but I wanted to create some items that would be perfect for gifting and made by me, so I hope you will come check them out!

Event Details:

stART on the Street brings its 6th annual gifting-themed arts and crafts festival to Worcester’s Union Station at 2 Washington Square on Sunday, December 4, from 11 – 5pm.

A special preview hour at 10am is available for a $5 donation, which comes with coffee, baked treats and a stART on the Street shopping bag, as well as shopping without the crowds.

Admission at 11am is free, though donations to help stART remain a free event are welcome.

This holiday season help us support the local economy and buy handmade!

Access Boston

Posted by punky on Friday November 18, 2011 at 2:51 pm | New England, Steals & Deals |

ACCESS Boston

I have been waiting for this project to launch for months, so forgive me if im overly excited!

My friends over at Spreedia + New Brahmin have created a local shopping deal card that provides you with exclusive, members-only perks to your favorite local boutiques. HOW AWESOME! You present your card to participating retailers and receive 10% off your entire purchase every time you shop. Also as a card holder, you’ll gain first access to special sales and promotions. I love any reason I get to shop locally! I signed up as soon as the site went live today!

You can order your Access card here.

BFW Recap

Posted by punky on Monday October 17, 2011 at 2:10 pm | Clothes Swaps |

Time sure does fly while your behind the scenes building the worlds bigest Swap Market (beta invites coming this week)! A few weeks ago we hosted our second annual Swapaholics Fashion Week Swap. It was a sold-out crowd at the Microsoft NERD Center, with a mega fun tweetup and relaxing Fashion Startup Lounge, with demonstrations from OpenRunway.com, Spreedia.com, 9Tailors.com, and StyleSha.re, four Boston-based startups founded by women while Magners and VitaCoco kept us well hydrated. Then, in true Swapaholics style, we hit up the photo booth. Ta daa
