Excess Baggage

My favorite airline just announced that they will be doubling the fee for checking a second bag to $50. Which will be bad news for all you over packers. It seems less is more less, money that is.
I am notorious for under packing. On the mini vacation I just returned from with my mom. Some of the important things I managed to leave home without were: a bra, a toothbrush (don’t worry my mom had an extra) shampoo and conditioner, a razor and extra pair of shoes. I did however remember my sun screen.

Hi everyone, it’s Linnea from Linneadates filling in for Punky while she’s off on holiday. Hopefully moonlighting as a sub on Punkystyle will give my on and off blogging a nudge towards on again.

For my first post I wanted to share a quick idea for reusing your old light bulbs, you know, the ones that you replaced with CFL bulbs. I saw this adorable display at Anthropologie a while back and snapped a picture:

I’m thinking on a much smaller scale this is a great looking way to add a little character to your home on the cheap.

I managed to get a picture of the $5 headboard without showing you how messy my bedroom was (click to enlarge).

I have had the most productive day, The little old lady across the street had a yard sale and wouldn’t you know, she was selling all her vintage shoes and purses. It was like waking up in your biggest fantasy. I spent the whole morning over there listening to the story behind the clothes like the black peeptoe sling backs that she wore out dancing with her husband on new years eve in 1980. She even had all her shoes in the original boxes (she is pretty much my hero).

After that I came home and decided storing my vintage items in my basement was not really working for me anymore. Kyle offered to move his office into the spare bedroom so I could have a room for myself (this is why I love him). Then operation Punky’s Vintage Headquarters went in to play. I spent the rest of the day moving furniture and pulling clothes out of storage to put them on display like they deserve to be. With the tripod, light kit, clothing racks and computer all on the same floor it will make updating the Etsy store a piece of cake (Mmm cake).

I snapped a quick picture of headquarters in progress.

Goodies

I just wanted to post some of the Vintage goodies I found at church sales last weekend. The dress form was $7 and all the other stuff was fill a box for $3.00. This was only half of it, Kate took her stuff home before I could get a photo. I also bought a wicker headboard (I will show you after I paint it a funky color) and a antique wood chair for $5 each.

Ooh, I almost forgot about the vintage aprons that we wore around all weekend pretending to be domestic. We got those for 50 cents each.

Her Glossiness

Her Glossiness

I came across Benefit Her Glossiness a few months back while I was in NYC for the weekend. I had lost my lip gloss on the train (the MAC C-thru gloss that I’ve been obsessed with for years). So we headed to Sephora and tried on about 30 lip glosses trying to replace it. I finally picked out the color “didn’t hear it from me”. Here is my quick review:
The Gloss is rich but not overly sticky. My hair was always getting stuck on my Mac gloss. It’s mega shiny and thick enough so you don’t need to reapply very often, which is kinda sad to me since it smells like cupcakes. The price is a little steep at $16, But it’s a descent size.
Any other Benefit lovers out there?

I’m heading to Dennisport for a mini vacation. Blogging will commence full force Monday, my laptop should be back by then (fingers crossed). Now excuse me while I make room in my car for all the vintage goodies Cape Cod church sales have to offer.

Custom Spats

Posted by punky on Tuesday July 15, 2008 at 11:10 am | Shopping Sites |

My laptop is still out for repair so I don’t have much computer time. But I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the diy spats I posted last week. I just wanted to give you a link to an Etsy shop that will custom make them for you. Her spats are 575435678 times prettier then mine.

Hello lovelies, I hope everyone had a exciting weekend. We did a bit of exploring over the last few days. We drove down to Putnam, CT to check out all the antique shops. There must have been 30 shops in this little town, But we didn’t buy anything (when your family owns a antique shop, you think everyone else is over priced). Then on Sunday Kyle and I drove out west to the Mohawk Trail. We strolled over the Bridge of Flowers, did some rock climbing at the Glacial Potholes and searched for covered bridges. The town of Shelburne Falls is so beautiful, It looks exactly like it did when my dad took me there 15 years ago. It almost made me regret buying a house in the city.

DIY Spats

I still have not purchased the cuff sandals I had been coveting, I cant bring myself to pay full price for them. I was telling Kate the other day that I could totally make my own, she agreed (but didn’t seem very confident). But here are my first attempt:

I cut up an old pair of boots to make them. I guess they look more like spats which are also pretty cool. I found some really pretty ones on Etsy.

Fred Flare is in the middle of their 2008 Next Big Thing Design Contest. The brand with the most votes will win $1000. Vote Now and make someones day. My vote went to the designers of the Mr. Moustache tote, because we kinda have a thing for fake moustaches around here.
